  • UVA Faculty and Employee Assistance Program (FEAP) - Retirement Preparation and Eldercare

    About

    Whether your elders are local or long distance, FEAP can help.  If you have a general question about Eldercare, please use the contact form.

    A Geriatric Care Manager (GCM) is available to meet with the employee and/or family member about their specific concerns and provide concrete resource information, help with problem solving, develop some long-term care plans, or just talk things over.

    Program Components

    • Consultation and Assessment of the employee’s caregiving situation by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) experienced in all aspects of eldercare. These free and confidential appointments can be scheduled to look at the physical care needs, family supports, financial resources, legal needs, long-term care plans and emotional issues raised by elder caregiving
    • Identification of the most pressing concerns, problem-solving, and short and long-term care planning can be addressed
    • Provision of concrete information about local, state and national resources
    • Brief individual and/or family counseling around elder caregiving issues
    • Telephone consultation for specific questions, concerns or referral needs is available
    • Information and assistance accessing the Backup Care Options Program for your work life balance needs while caregiving (available to UPG, Medical Center, and UVA employees)

  • Jefferson Area Board for Aging - Wide range of eldercare services

    About

    JABA is the Jefferson Area Board for Aging. They have been supporting older and disabled adults, their families and caregivers throughout central Virginia (Charlottesville, plus Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson counties) for over 40 years. 

    JABA will answer your questions about aging, support older adults to maintain independence, and can assist if you need a caregiver.

  • UVA Backup Care - temporary in-home care

    About

    Each UVA employee (including the UVA Medical Center and UPG) is offered 15 days per calendar year of backup care services for child or eldercare.

    UVA Backup Care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

    The cost is $15 per day for center-based child care and $6 per hour for in-home care.

    Register early. Call or go online to request care up to 30 days before the date of need. 

    Out of network option:

    If you can’t find someone through the service to provide the care and instead use a neighbor, friend, family member, other child care center to provide care, you can be reimbursed up to $100/day. 

    Self-care option:

    If you are single and have surgery or needs someone to stay with you, you are able to use UVA Backup Care as well. 

    Out of Town and Off-Hours option:

    If you are going to a conference, you are able to have someone stay in the hotel and care for children or elders during the conference. In addition, if you work outside standard working hours, you are able to find help in-home during these off hours.
