COVID Testing - UVA Health & Academic Division

Team members who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will no longer be required to complete weekly prevalence testing at this time. There is a possibility that prevalence testing will be reinstated in the future if warranted by changes in COVID-19 case numbers and other factors. As a reminder, prevalence testing is separate from diagnostic testing, which is performed on individuals who have symptoms, have possibly been exposed to COVID-19, or otherwise have been directed to get tested. Read about team member diagnostic testing options.

Team members can get vaccinated at any COVID-19 vaccination site that is most convenient. Anyone who was previously infected with COVID-19 is encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as they are recovered from clinical illness. Team members can schedule appointments at a UVA Health vaccination site through VaxTrax.

Note: Proof of vaccinations administered at UVA Health sites will automatically be available to Employee Health; team members who get vaccinated at other sites must follow the steps for submitting proof of vaccination described below.

Team members who did not schedule vaccinations through VaxTrax should send a scanned image or photo of immunization records, such as a CDC card or official medical record, along with their UVA computing ID, to covidvax@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu. Employee Health will use this information to validate and update team members’ records (VaxTrax data will be available to managers). Any other forms of documentation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

As a result of recent trends, we remain on course to make wearing a mask optional under most circumstances, effective Monday, March 21, in a manner consistent with the latest CDC guidance. Masks will still be required while in class, in UVA Health facilities, and on University Transit. 

Per policy SEC-045: COVID-19 Health and Safety Requirements, Academic Division employees (including faculty, staff, wage and temp workers, full-time and part-time) are strongly encouraged to receive COVID-19 vaccination(s) and booster. As of March 2022, prevalence testing is no longer required for unvaccinated students or Academic Division faculty and staff. It remains required for unvaccinated UVA Health team members.

Prevalence testing is no longer required for Academic employees who are governed by SEC-045. Asymptomatic Academic and UVA Health employees who have been exposed to COVID-19, may schedule to test at Employee Health by using the Time2Test application.

Rapid antigen tests are also available at SHW Pharmacy and UVA Bookstore Pharmacy through the end of the spring semester while supplies last. Let’s Get Checked kits may be ordered through the portal while supplies last at www.letsgetchecked.com/order-form. The University’s supply of these tests is limited, so we ask community members to help us use this resource wisely. It is also worth noting that at-home tests are widely available at retail pharmacies and online.

Academic Division employees can review the proof of vaccination status procedures on this HR webpage, or follow the instructions in this Workday job aid. Please note that proof of vaccination(s) and booster is optional for employees who follow SEC-045.
