COVID-19 Booster Information

All Academic Division faculty and staff who follow SEC-045 are strongly encouraged to receive a COVID-19 booster.

All UVA Health team members who follow OCH-002 (including Tier 1 and Tier 2) are strongly encouraged, but not required, to receive a booster dose of vaccine six (6) months after completing primary vaccination with Pfizer or Moderna vaccine OR two months after receiving J&J vaccination dose and such other booster or additional doses as may be recommended by the CDC. It is clear that the COVID-19 vaccines become less effective at preventing infections over time. In addition, we are concerned about the rise in cases in Virginia and around the globe, as well as the early indications that the new omicron variant is significantly more contagious than previous variants of the virus.

Higher prevalence of the virus combined with a more contagious strain and reduced vaccine efficacy is a troubling situation that could lead to a spike in cases and a strain on our health care resources. 

Aside from getting vaccinated for the first time, getting a booster shot is the most effective tool available to limit the spread of the virus and keep the people around you safe. And we believe additional measures are necessary to reduce the spread of the virus and to start our spring semester as safely as possible.

For Academic Division who follow SEC-045:

Proof of an approved booster shot is not required for Academic Division employees. If you would like to upload your documentation, please follow instructions on the Entering My Booster in Workday webpage.

UVA Health who follow OCH-002 - All team members (including Tier 1 and Tier 2) are strongly encouraged, but not required, to receive a booster dose of vaccine six (6) months after completing primary vaccination with Pfizer or Moderna vaccine OR two months after receiving J&J vaccination dose and such other booster or additional doses as may be recommended by the CDC. Directions for Academic Division faculty and staff to upload their COVID booster documentation in Workday are available on the Entering Booster Information in Workday webpage. Please note that this is optional for Academic Division employees who follow policy SEC-045.

UVA Health team members who did not schedule their booster through VaxTrax should email a scanned image or photo of the immunization record, along with their UVA computing ID, to covidvax@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu.

The Commonwealth of Virginia has extended leave benefits for 2022 under the Virginia Public Health Emergency Leave (PHEL) policy related to COVID-19. Eligible employees and team members may use up to 40 hours total (pro-rated for part-time employees) of paid leave to attend to their own medical needs (and/or those of their immediate family members) due to positive cases of COVID-19, with up to 8 hours of leave that allows for COVID vaccinations and boosters and any related side effects.

Fully vaccinated is defined in Policy SEC-045 for the Academic Division and in Policy OCH-002 for UVA Health.

All employees, including 100% remote workers, are strongly encouraged, but not required to receive the COVID-19 booster.

For UVA Health team members following OCH-002 and Academic Division employees following SEC-045, you are strongly encouraged to receive a booster shot, though it is not a requirement.

All full-time and part-time students, including undergraduate, graduate and professional, and student-wage employees, should report through the HealthyHoos Patient Portal.

Employees who are registered for classes must upload their proof of booster records to Workday or follow the UVA Health process, as applicable.
