Learning to manage stress is a life skill that can improve with practice, similar to learning a physical skill like riding a bicycle or a mental skill such as managing frustration. This presentation will review a sequential model for evaluating our stressors and choosing the most appropriate stress management strategy. A variety of tips and techniques will be explored and participants will be encouraged to share personal experiences in managing stress.
- Participants will learn the advantages and disadvantages of the stress response
- Participants will identify their personal physical, emotional and behavioral responses to stress.
- Participants will identify 1-2 new coping strategies to begin to utilize.
- Participants will develop a personal stress management plan.
About the Presenter
Rebecca Mason is an Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional with over 30 years of experience. She has worked with the University of Virginia Faculty and Employee Assistance since 1993. She has expertise in helping employees manage stress, improve interpersonal/communication skills and manage anxiety, depression and crisis. She has additional experience in Substance Abuse treatment and is a Department of Transportation qualified Substance Abuse Professional. She is a member of the American and Virginia Nurses Association and Employee Assistance Professionals Association.
