COVID-19 Procedures for Employee & Manager


The following explains what to do when an employee or team member exhibits COVID-19 symptoms or tests positive. This page includes instructions for Academic Division, UVA Health, and Student Workers.

UVA Health - includes School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Health System Library, Medical Center, UVA Physicians Group

Academic Division - includes Academic faculty, staff, wage and temp workers, part-time and full-time.

Academic Division Covid-19 Instructions

EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or test positive, follow these CDC guidelines. Symptoms of COVID are at the top of page, guidelines below. 

2. If you're working on Grounds, consult your manager immediately, and alert coworkers who you are in direct contact. 

3. Follow these CDC isolation guidelines (see #3 on page for specifics)

MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work with your employee to take leave while they are sick or to meet the recommended CDC isolation guidelines (see #3 on page for specifics). There is no special leave option for COVID-19 at this time.

2. Do not notify coworkers, that is the employee’s responsibility (see above).

UVA Health COVID-19 Instructions

The COVID-19 process for School of Medicine, School of Nursing, the Health System Library, University Medical Center, and UPG must follow directions provided on the UVA Health Occupational Health Intranet (follow the COVID-19 links in the right sidebar), or you may contact UVA Employee Health directly at 434-924-2013. 

Student Worker COVID-19 Instructions

1. If you have COVID symptoms or test positive, follow guidance on the Student Health and Wellness website.

2. Contact your manager and advise them of the situation. Student Health does not contact student worker's manager, that is the responsibility of the student.
