Employee Performance Management


Employee Performance Management is a collaborative, ongoing process between a manager and an employee. The performance process helps develop employee potential, communicates expectations on a regular basis, and provides ongoing, timely, and descriptive feedback (formally and informally).

This gives the manager and the employee a baseline to plan for, develop, and evaluate an employee’s work.

  • A&P Faculty (Administrative & Professional) - depending on school or unit’s guidelines

T&R Faculty (Teaching & Research) and Professional Research Staff should inquire about this process with their school or department.

Performance Process (Academic)

Beginning January 7, 2019, employees and managers will establish and track professional goals using Workday. Every community member should be aware of her/his individual responsibilities, as well as several changes to the University’s overall performance management process.

 

Please note the following key dates, which detail required next steps, beginning with Self-Evaluation (for Academic staff, with the exception of Advancement and School of Medicine employees) and Goal Entry (for all staff and team members) on January 21, 2019. You will receive a Workday action item to your inbox once available.

 

01/21/19     

Academic staff (except Advancement and SOM) will see the 2018 Year-End Evaluation Template that includes goals approved prior to the 10/31 cutoff date within Workday as an Inbox action item. Complete the required Self Evaluation as soon as possible.

 

HR launches the 2019 Goal Setting Template within Workday as an Inbox action item. Add a minimum of three (3) SMART goals in Workday for 2019

  • Enter directly into the Goal Setting Template and submit for leader approval OR
  • Select and import goals (if you’ve already entered them via the performance application) into the Template

04/15/19      

Evaluations for 2018 are due. Take this opportunity to identify areas of opportunity for 2019 Goal Setting.

 

04/30/19       

Approved 2019 goals are due in Workday. For new hires After January 21, 2019, all new h approved goals are due within 30 days of hire.

02/15/19     

Goals must be entered and leader-approved; for new hires after 01/21/19, approved goals are due within 30 days of hire.

 

04/01/19     

Optional “Goal alignment touchpoint” task pushed to Workday Inbox to prompt discussion on alignment and progress.

Appeals of Annual Performance Evaluations

Employees who disagree with an evaluation and cannot resolve the disagreement with their manager may appeal to the reviewer for another review of the evaluation.
