  • How do I complete performance tasks in Workday (review, goal setting, peer review, new hire probation)?

    Performance tasks will be in your Workday inbox. Log into Workday, navigate to your Workday inbox, and open the task. 

  • Who receives a performance task (review, goal setting, new hire probation)?

    It depends on your role and entity. Visit the Academic or UVA Health Performance Management page to confirm who's eligible to complete or receive a review.

  • How many goals am I required to have?

    We recommend 4-5 overarching goals per year, with at least one focused on professional development (required for Medical Center team members and Nursing staff), that follow a SMART or OKR format.

    Always discuss expectations with your manager.

  • How do I view my goals?

    Find goals from your previous review or new hire goal setting in Workday under your Performance page:

    Through Your Workday Profile:

    1. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner
    2. Select "View Profile" from the drop-down menu
    3. Click "Performance" in the left-hand menu
    4. Select the "Performance Review" tab at the top of the page
    5. Click "View" next to your previous performance review

    Managers: Open an employee's profile by selecting them from your Team Org Chart or searching their name, then follow steps 3–5.

  • Why am I not able to submit my self-evaluation or manager evaluation?

    Complete all required fields before submitting: add comments to accomplishments and goal-setting questions, select your overall rating (if applicable). Medical Center CCL Nurses: confirm ratings are entered in each section of your CCL behaviors.

  • I submitted my review but can't find it.

    Once submitted, your review won't be visible until your manager completes their portion., All completed reviews are stored on your Performance page in workday.

    Managers: Search "PM Dashboard" or run the "Performance Completion Report" in Workday to check the statuses of your employees' reviews.

    View a completed review or new hire goal setting through Your Workday profile:

    1. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner
    2. Select "View Profile" from the drop-down menu
    3. Click "Performance" in the left-hand menu
    4. Select the "Performance Review" tab at the top of the page
    5. Click "View" next to your previous performance review

  • How do I make changes after submitting my self-evaluation or new hire goal setting?

    Employees: Ask your manager to send your evaluation back to you.

    Managers: To return a self-evaluation or new hiring goal setting to an employee:

    1. Open the review or new hire goal setting in your Workday inbox
    2. Click "Get Started"
    3. Navigate to the "Review & Submit" section
    4. Click the "Send Back" button at the bottom of your screen

    Note: Employees will not see manager comments or ratings when a review is sent back.

     

  • What if an employee is on a leave of absence (LOA)?

    Employees complete their self-evaluation and receive their 1:1 after returning from leave.

    Managers: Complete and submit your portion while the employee is on leave, or use the "Save for later" option. Once they return, email AskHR@virginia.edu to request the review be sent back to the employee for their self-evaluation. 

  • How do I document goals in Workday?

    Visit the Goal Settings Resources page and review the "Workday How-To" section.

  • I have goals in Workday I didn't create, where did they come from?

    Managers and upper leadership can cascade, add, edit, or archive goals for you (on your "Performance" page under your "Goals" tab in Workday).

  • How do I request or complete feedback (peer review) in Workday?

    Visit the Feedback Resources page and review the "Workday How-To" section.

  • Who can see feedback?

    Workday has two "Sharing" options that impact visibility and whether feedback appears in your year-end or quarterly review:

    "Share with me"

    • Who can see it? You only 
    • When to use? Personal development feedback you want kept private
    • Important note for Nurses: Do not use this for peer review as it will prevent feedback from appearing in your year-end review

    "Share with others"

    • Who can see it? You and your management chain (your supervisor and their supervisor)
    • When to use? Any feedback you want included in your year-end review
    • Important note for Nurses: Required for peer review so it automatically appears in your year-end review
  • Can I delete feedback?

    No, but if you feel feedback should be deleted, contact AskHR@virginia.edu for assistance.

  • How do I access my job description?

    Navigate to the "Job" page of your Workday profile, and click on your "Job Profile" title:

    1. Log into Workday
    2. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner
    3. Click "View Profile" from the drop-down 
    4. Click "Job" in the left-hand menu
    5. Click the "Job Profile" title hyperlink
  • Where do I find information on annual or merit increases?

    The PM team does not oversee annual increases. Please visit the Compensation webpage.

  • Manager: What if the employee transferred recently?

    The manager who oversaw the employee for the majority of the review period completes the appraisal in most cases. To request a reassignment:

    1. Open the review in your Workday inbox
    2. Click on the cog-wheel icon in the upper right corner of the review
    3. Click "Reassign" from the drop-down menu
    4. Select the previous manager and provide a brief justification for the request (requests with no justification will be denied)
  • Manager: How do I check the status of performance tasks (reviews, goal setting, peer review)?

    You can search and run the "Performance Completion Report" or "PM Dashboard" to check the status and details of reviews. Manager evaluations are completed by opening the task in your Workday inbox (their self-eval must have been submitted or pushed forward to appear in your inbox).

    For feedback (peer review) reports, visit the Feedback Resources page and review the "Workday How-To" section.

  • Manager: How do I make changes to a review after submitting it?

    Email AskHR@virginia.edu requesting to have the review sent back to the manager evaluation step.

  • Manager: Why don't I see all of my employees evaluations?

    You'll receive the review after your employee submits their self-evaluation, or after it has been mass advanced (check your entity's performance management page timeline for mass advancement dates).

    You can search and run the "Performance Completion Report" or "PM Dashboard" to check the status and details of reviews. 

  • Manager: How do I send back a review or new hire goal setting to an employee?

    To return a self-evaluation or new hiring goal setting to an employee:

    1. Open the review or new hire goal setting in your Workday inbox
    2. Click "Get Started"
