Community and Belonging

How We Serve the UVA Community

In the UVA 2030 Strategic Plan, Pres. Jim Ryan states, "In 2030, universities will be judged in part by how well they are run and whether they are ethical institutions— whether they are great places to work and good partners with their surrounding communities; whether they are engines of economic growth; and whether they reach students, of any age or walk of life, who do not have the good fortune to enroll as full-time students."

We are the UVA Community

We are the UVA community, AND we are also part of the larger Charlottesville community. UVA HR is committed to not only creating a great place to work, but also creating opportunities for our colleagues across Grounds to help each other, help the surrounding communities, and create a just and equitable institution. Here are a few ways we're doing this.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In partnership with UVA's Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and the Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights (EOCR), the HR DEI Committee promotes awareness of and respect for diversity among UVA staff and faculty; advocates for inclusion and inclusive practices and policies; and ensures equity in human resources programs and processes.

  • Employee Assistance Fund

Recognizing that staff are integral to the success of UVA’s mission, the Employee Assistance Fund (EAF) has been established to serve as a critical resource for UVA employees in the Academic Division. Understanding that unexpected situations, illness, and accidents occur even with the best laid plans, the EAF serves as a resource for employees who experience a financial hardship due to an unexpected and non-recurring need. The EAF can assist eligible employees in meeting basic needs when no other sources of monetary support are available through providing grants and financial counseling to the employee.
