Professional Goal Setting Section For All Roles [New For MC Team Members]
In 2019 all Health System Entities will use the professional goal setting section for all roles during the appraisal process. This is new for Medical Center team members.
Why do we use the goal setting process?
Employees who participate in their goal setting process are more engaged at work. Research by Gallup indicates that ensuring employees know what is expected of them is the first core element needed to attract, focus, and keep the most talented employees. Lean methodology speaks to the importance of measuring daily, managing to that measure, and making it easy to do the right thing.
How does it work?
Shared Framework - everyone should use the SMART Goal framework to develop goals. Leadership goal(s) cascading – provides leaders the ability to set one or more ‘shared’ goals, aligned to the overarching initiatives of the department, school, unit, and/or organization then the goals are customized to the employee’s role. Employee goal creation – employees drive the design of their performance initiatives and metrics then fine-tune in partnership with their manager. This helps increase engagement and accountability. This section in both the Health System and Nurse Appraisal templates holds a weighting of 50% toward the Overall Rating.
