Medical Center Policy 0265 Life Support Compliance Info

Courses can be found on the Life Support Learning Center website. Please sign up ASAP to make the Dec. 31 approval deadline. 

The deadline to provide course documentation is December 31, 2023. If you miss the deadline then you will be removed from your work schedule as of January 1, 2024.  

Per MC Policy 0265 personnel working in certain patient care areas are required to have an approved BLS, ACLS, or PALS course on file. The necessary certification is based on professional role.

The course certificate must be emailed to LSLC@UVAhealth.org. The Life Support Learning Center must approve all courses and then upload to Workday. Your Workday record will be updated shortly after approval. If your course approval is not currently showing please email it to the LSLC again. 

If you are not sure if you also need ACLS or PALS courses, please ask your manager. They will review Policy 0265 to determine if your job category falls within the compliance requirements.

Life Support Certification and Compliance Reports are available in Workday that track the certification status of your direct reports for BLS, ACLS, and PALS. They also provide COMPLIANCE information for BLS based on the requirements defined in Medical Center Policy 0265. ACLS and PALS requirements must be decided by departmental leadership as described in the policy and therefore, no email will be sent to team members regarding non-compliance.

Any team member whose current BLS certification status is 'Needs Review BLS Certification', or 'No Current BLS Certification' in Workday will receive an email on Tuesday, December 5 alerting them that they are noncompliant and the deadline to bring their certification current is December 31, 2023.

Login to Workday and in the Search bar type in Life Support Certification Reports. The first report in the list contains team member certification status.

Team member statuses in the report indicate:

• Current Certification: Information entered correctly and unexpired - No action needed
• Needs Review Certification: Information entered into wrong area in the system and unexpired. - Take action; team member must email their certification to LSLC@UVAhealth.org
• No Certification: Nothing ever entered or now expired - Take the course and email the certification

Please review Policy 0265, Attachment 1, to determine if your individual team member's job category falls within the policy's ACLS or PALS requirements. If you have questions, please reach out to the Life Support Learning Center.
