Dare to Lead

Daring leaders are self-aware, know how to have hard conversations, hold themselves and others accountable, build trust, lead with empathy and connection, take smart risks that lead to innovation, reset quickly after disappointments and setbacks, and give and receive feedback – especially when it’s tough.  All of these skills are teachable, measurable, and observable and we teach them all in the Dare To Lead™ courage building program based on the research of Brené Brown, Ph.D.

See What Others Are Saying:

  • Dare to Lead was quite possibly the biggest game changer for me personally, and as a leader. I learned things that at the time seemed valuable at first, yet I may not have seen the applicability real time. However, the more I practiced even the most basic concepts, what I learned unleashed like wildfire, and I found it instinctive to apply so many of the DTL concepts in real time practice.

  • I would highly recommend the Dare To Lead course for any UVA employee who is seeking to become a more compassionate, empathic, and productive leader in the workplace. The research and techniques introduced, coupled with excellent facilitation, created an engaging environment where we were encouraged to be curious and experiment with tools to improve our team and organizational dynamics.
    – Senior Director, Darden

  • My integrity partner and I are still meeting almost every week in an ongoing effort to integrate this work into our work and personal lives.  It has helped me deal with an incredibly difficult and long term issue at work.  It has allowed me to confidently set boundaries and has improved my relationship with and responses to my teens.  I have been hosting a White Fragility book club for my department work and I have been able to use Brene’s permission slips and shame shields to help us all to feel safe and to talk openly about a really difficult subject.  This is not everything and to put it succinctly – the Dare to Lead work has truly and sincerely changed my life!

  • I found this program very informative, thoughtful, and empowering. I know these tools will pose great value to me as a leader and I see it being incredibly beneficial especially in situations with my direct reports. I was lucky to have some strong breakout rooms and personally found it beneficial to have different roles mixed in the groups. It has helped me see different perspectives and contributed to what I received out of the class. – Clinic Manager, UVA Health

  • The information covered in the Dare To Lead Program will not only make me a better leader.  The information will effect future generations of my family.  The word "vulnerability" shall no longer be thought of as "weakness" but as "indestructibility".

  • I appreciate this moment to slow down, reflect on self and re-set my intentions for the given moment or situation. I loved learning how I can always return back to these skills, podcasts and support. I appreciate creating a network of support going forward. Our facilitator was BRAVE and Vulnerable and I thank her for her leadership, knowledge and talent to move this group forward.

  • This program provide an environment in which people can both be real and honest, and also discuss and navigate real solutions to challenges.

  • I really liked the interplay of content and reflection/application and in many cases sharing with others in breakout rooms. Opportunities to share experiences. Questions were hard but meaningful to understand me better, my behaviors and where they are coming from.
