Operations Status Update 2 - January 3, 2022

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The University Academic Division and the Medical Center will operate on a modified schedule on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Academic Division

Due to the ongoing impacts of today’s winter weather, the University will operate on a modified schedule on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

All January Term (J-Term) classes will be held online.

Only those Academic Division staff members designated as essential in inclement weather should report to Grounds. Non-designated Academic Division staff should work from home. Non-designated employees who are unable to work should contact their supervisor. Supervisors and faculty in the Academic Division are asked to provide flexibility for staff members experiencing power or internet outages, or who have other responsibilities at home (such as childcare or eldercare), while continuing to meet the business needs of the University.

Students and Academic Division faculty and staff should monitor the Academic Operations Status Board for other changes to operations on Grounds.

University officials continue to monitor weather conditions and will provide updates if additional schedule modifications become necessary.  Please use extra precautions and allow extra time if you are traveling.

  • Please park in the designated location based on your shift arrival time. We do not have enough close-in parking capacity to accommodate all shifts and our patients.
  • Check the Operations Status board or Parking & Transportation website to stay up to date on parking plans and UTS service levels, which can change quickly during a weather event.

Safety

  • If you are traveling, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
  • Develop an Emergency Plan and maintain an Emergency Kit (“Go-Kit”).
  • Remember that roads, parking areas, and walkways can never be completely cleared of slick spots. Watch out for slips, trips, and falls when walking or entering and exiting your vehicle.
  • Don’t forget your winter weather attire: boots, gloves, and a hat. Dressing in layers will also help retain heat.
  • Plan ahead and add extra time for safe travel. View road conditions from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Virginia 511 site and mobile app.

UVA Medical Center makes its decisions based on the forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS).

If conditions change, we will update this information. Some off-site locations may have different schedules; contact your manager for instructions. For more information and updates, please check the Medical Center Status Board at www.uvahealth.com/weather.
