UVA Health in-person Orientation

We are excited to announce that UVA Health Orientation is returning to in-person orientation. Please read carefully for updates related to your area:

UVA Health Orientation will be returning to an in-person session on Monday, September 19 for Medical Center new hires only.

Sessions will take place at the Education Resource Center (ERC), Conference Room A, from 8:00 – 11:00 am.

Also beginning September 19, all UVA Health new hires will receive a Workday learning module with a recording of the UVA Health orientation presentation. This audience includes new hires in the Medical Center, UPG, SOM, MC Travelers, and MC Temps. There will be an attestation at the beginning of the module in which new hires will indicate if they have taken the in-person training or not. If not, they will be prompted to complete the module.

Things for Medical Center New Hires attending in person (and their managers) to know:

  • I-9s: Registration and I-9 processing for Medical Center new hires only will take place at the in-person session from 7:00 – 8:00 am. New hires should bring documentation to complete their I-9. All others will complete the current process for I-9 documentation.

  • Benefits: A Benefits presentation will be made at the ERC, Conference Room B, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Orientation Mondays. The Benefits presentation will not be held on October 3 or December 27.

  • Managers: Managers of Medical Center New Hires are asked to arrive to the ERC by 10:45 am to pick up their new hire(s) for lunch. New hires will be provided a $10 gift card for the cafeteria and managers will be provided the same (one per new hire.)

After lunch, managers are expected to bring their new hires back to their department, and make arrangements for them to complete onboarding tasks there (like CBLs, getting ID badge, arranging for parking pass, etc.) There will be no afternoon session held by HR on Orientation Mondays.

  • Parking: New hires should plan to park in an outlying lot for Orientation. The lot will be indicated on the two-week temporary pass provided to new hires, which is linked in the Remote Onboarding Guide. Remote Onboarding Guides are sent with the new hire’s clearance letter from HR. New hires should print off their two-week temporary pass, park in the lot indicated on their pass, and plan to take the University Transit System (UTS) shuttle to the Main Hospital stop (across the street from the Education Resource Center (ERC.) Ample time should be planned for parking and bus travel.

  • Masks: The use of masks is required in the ERC and will be required in other UVA Health spaces.

  • Other Training: New hires are asked not to leave any in-person training they have scheduled during their first week to complete other onboarding tasks. Please be sure to attend and participate as instructed.

  • Continental Breakfast will be provided at in-person orientation.
