Optum Rx Card Update

UVA Health Plan members will be receiving new Optum ID cards effective January 1, 2019. New ID cards will have 14 digits. Please watch for your Optum card in the mail.

The UVA Health Plan’s prescription drug coverage through OptumRx issued new ID numbers effective January 1, 2019. The ID numbers consist of 14 digits. With this change, services were disrupted. Optum is actively working to resolve any issues our UVA Health Plan members may have. Please find a summary of the issues and their current status below.

  • The 2018 Optum member ID number was added to the new 2019 Optum member ID within the Optum system. This will allow pharmacies to search for members using their 2018 Optum ID number. Once found, the new ID number will also be available to the pharmacy.
  • Prior Authorizations actively on file with member’s 2018 Optum ID number were not carried over to the new 2019 Optum ID number. Optum completed carrying over the prior authorizations onto the 2019 Optum IDs on January 5, 2019.
  • New Optum ID cards were issued. The current cards issued do not have the new full 14-digit Optum ID number. New Optum ID cards with the 14-digit ID number were mailed Friday, January 11, 2019, and they are expected to be delivered within 3-5 business days.
  • Please review print date and ID# on your new 2019 Optum ID card. The print date located on the bottom right corner of the ID card will be 01/09/19 or 01/10/19. The ID# will consist of 14 digits. Please replace any card that was printed prior to those dates and with ID number less than 14 digits.
