The IMPACT and Decision Support Community of Expertise delivers the HR systems, analytics, process, and policy infrastructure to both optimize and measure the effectiveness of how HR services are delivered across Grounds. Our three specialized units address the following areas:

HR Business Operations - The way HR manages, coordinates, and delivers HR projects that support the University’s mission on-time, in scope, and within budget. Additionally, this service supports the University to reduce risk, uphold policy, ensure compliance, and understand financial implications.

HR People Data and Technology - The way HR manages, coordinates, and delivers HR projects that support the University’s mission on-time, in scope, and within budget. Additionally, this service supports the University to reduce risk, uphold policy, ensure compliance, and understand financial implications.

HR Total Rewards - How HR defines and implements a total rewards strategy to attract and retain faculty, staff, and team members through competitive pay, benefits, and wellness programs.

This group helps the University manage risk by creating a comprehensive HR risk framework, measuring HR risks, managing HR regulatory reporting, and monitoring compliance.

Business Operations Service Offerings

  • Initiatives Management

    Initiatives Management is a service provided to Human Resources for efficiently and effectively managing and coordinating HR projects/ activities. Initiatives Management works with the HR Communities of Expertise to organize, oversee, and manage HR projects/activities, reducing waste, increasing value, and delighting our customers. This service tracks and reports milestones and deliverables, provides toolkits for project implementation, supports best practices in project management, and collaborates pan-University to minimize disruption. Initiatives Management works to measure and report progress and outcomes. The use of consistent project management methodologies and practices reduces waste and increases efficiencies.

    Policy, Risk Management, and Compliance administers a comprehensive risk management framework to:

    • Evaluate, manage, measure, and assess HR risks, taking action as needed and providing appropriate education
    • Monitor and manage HR compliance and regulatory reporting
    • Establish and oversee clear, consistent, and up-to-date policies

    Having a consistent approach to risk is critical for making decisions, making investments and taking action. Knowledge of HR risk helps inform governance tools, such as policies and communications. Clear, consistent, and up-to-date policies make compliance easier to attain and manage.

People Data Analytics uses HR data to create insight regarding the UVA workforce, make predictions, inform decision making, and measure impact. People Data Analytics also fosters data literacy and analytical thinking throughout the workforce.   • Compensation Strategy and Program Administration

    Compensation Strategy and Program Administration defines a compensation strategy, executes the organizational pay philosophy, supports the competitive compensation market analysis, defines and aligns roles within the compensation structures, and maintains compliance with key laws and regulations such as the Fair Labor Standards Act. We ensure consistent philosophy and governance across the organization, including new pay programs and changes to current programs. We focus on helping the University retain and reward faculty, staff, and team members.
