New employees and team members at UVA or UVA Health must complete regulatory courses and programs hosted in Workday Learning.

Assigned learning, based on your role, appears in the "Required for You" slider. You will also receive an email and a Workday notification for each assignment. These emails include contact information if you need assistance, so be sure to review them carefully and complete assignments by their due dates.

  • Bloodborne Pathogens and Infection Control

    This digital course, owned by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, is required for all UVA Health team members. The purpose of this course is to explore regulatory topics such as practices for hand hygiene, standard precautions, and how to handle exposure to any pathogens. For team members who work in a clinical setting, there is additional information on topics such as personal protective equipment (PPE), isolation guidelines, MRSA and VRE, and handling sharps.

  • DSS - Emergency Preparedness, Targeted Violence, & Terrorism Awareness

    The Emergency Preparedness, Targeted Violence, & Terrorism Awareness training module provides an overview of emergency preparedness planning at the University. Our goal with this module is to educate you on planning and response for all hazards. As a state employee, you are required by the Virginia Office of Commonwealth Preparedness to take one training on terrorism awareness. This course has been approved by the Office of Commonwealth Preparedness and satisfies that requirement.

    This module will acquaint you with policies, procedures, and resources related to the recruitment and selection of faculty, staff, and healthcare professionals at the University, University Medical Center, and UVA Wise. Through this Module, you will learn how bias can adversely affect a search and how to mitigate those potential effects, and how to conduct fair and objective recruitment processes using the resources provided throughout the training.

    Hiring Official and Search Committee Training
  • Not On Our Grounds: Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities at the University of Virginia

    This online training is required of all University and Medical Center employees at hire and every two years. You’ll learn about preventing sexual and gender-based harassment and other forms of interpersonal violence, as well as your reporting requirements for such disclosures.

    Please note: This course does not satisfy the University of Virginia’s designation or training requirements related to Clery Act Campus Security Authorities. To learn whether you are a designated Campus Security Authority, please contact clery@virginia.edu.

  • Preventing and Addressing Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation (PADHR)

    The University is committed to providing a workplace and educational environment, programs, and activities free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. As a UVA staff or faculty member, you are required to know and comply with UVA's HRM-009: Preventing and Addressing Discrimination and HarassmentHRM-010: Preventing and Addressing Retaliation, and HRM-040: Reporting of Disclosures Policies.

    There are two PADHR courses available: General Training and Supervisor and Faculty Training.

    You are also required to complete UVA’s discrimination, harassment, and retaliation prevention training at least every two years. Successful completion of this training satisfies that requirement.

  • Quality and Safety

    This digital course, owned by UVA Health, is required for all UVA Health team members. The purpose of this course is to explore four major areas: Be Safe, Safety & Security, Fire Safety, and Hazard Prevention & Management.  

    • Be Safe teaches employees about the philosophy of Be Safe, A3 method to problem solving, escalation and the Help Chain, and other elements of lean management system.  
    • Safety and Security teaches employees about the proper way to display your ID badge and responses to security issues. 
    • Fire Safety teaches employees about their response to a fire.
    • Hazard Prevention & Management teaches employees responses to hazardous chemical concerns and other potential hazards in the environment.

    The Records & Information Management Office (RIM) assists university departments and employees with managing university records in accordance with state and federal laws and university policies.

    This training is intended for academic employees and is mandatory for all current and new employees under IRM-017 Records Management.

    This digital course, owned by UVA Medical Center Emergency Management, is required for all UVA Health team members. The purpose of this course is to educate team members on planning for and responding to a variety of emergency situations. Because Virginia is vulnerable to a variety of natural, technological, and human-caused emergencies, a planned and coordinated response by UVA Health can save lives, protect assets, and more quickly restore essential services. This course must be completed annually.

    Virginia State Employee Safety and Disaster Awareness Training

Compliance Monitoring and Reporting

Unit leadership (e.g., Manager, Supervisor, ANM, NEC, designee) and Learning Content Owners are responsible for running Workday Learning reports to monitor and ensure compliance with required training.

Some assignments in Workday Learning include automated reminders before, on, and after the due date. These reminders may CC the worker’s direct manager(s) to encourage completion.
