UVA J Visa Health Plan
Open Enrollment is now closed. You can make changes to your benefits if you have a "qualified life event." Learn more on the UVA HR Life Changes webpages.
The UVA J Visa Health Plan is a self-insured plan designed just for J visa holders that meets the minimum requirements set by the U.S. Department of State, including medical evacuation and repatriation. These requirements can change with minimal notice, and offering a plan specifically for J visa holders allows UVA to alter the plan benefits quickly, if necessary.
What to Know
- Premiums will increase in 2026 for UVA employees on J visas.
- There are no changes to UVA J Visa Health Plan deductibles or coverage levels for 2026.
- You are eligible for UVA's standard dental and vision coverage.
- If your visa status changes to J Visa during the plan year, you will need to change your health coverage accordingly.
As a self-insured health plan, the Plan is paid for by employee and employer contributions, and rising prices have an impact on the cost of the health plan. While employee premium rates will increase in 2026, the employer contribution will cover the greatest part of the increases.
Eligibility
Only those on J visas are eligible for enrollment in the UVA J Visa Health Plan.
