Open Enrollment is your yearly opportunity to enroll in benefits or make changes to your current elections. All changes made during this period take effect January 1, 2027.

Your UVA Health Plan Options:

Eligible for Enrollment:

UVA PPO
Health Savings (High-deductible health plan)

If you do not complete the 2027 Open Enrollment event in Workday, the majority of your current elections for health, dental, vision, and HSA will carry over into the 2027 plan year.

What will not carry over if you do not take action:

If you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you must re-enroll if you want the account to continue into 2027.
If you have a Dependent Daycare Reimbursement Account, you must re-enroll if you want the account to continue into 2027.

Dates and Next Steps

Open Enrollment begins on Monday, October 5 and remains open until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 16
- You will receive a task in your Workday Inbox on October 5 to get started
- After open enrollment ends, benefit changes will be limited to Qualifying Life Events
On January 1, 2027, the elections you made during Open Enrollment will take effect
- Any updates to your paycheck deductions will appear on your first 2027 paycheck

When using the Digital Care Tool, review the Aetna formulary list (Updated list coming in November), as a prescription drug may be listed as the generic name within the tool.

If you don’t complete Open Enrollment, most current benefits will carry over

If you do not complete the 2027 Open Enrollment event in Workday, your current elections for health, dental, vision, and HSA will carry over into the 2027 plan year, exceptions include Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Daycare Reimbursement Account.

Benefits elections close after the deadline, even if you started to make changes

If you have started to make changes but do not submit your Open Enrollment event in Workday, any changes that were in progress will be lost, and your current 2026 elections will continue forward for next year, except for your FSA elections.

Not every spouse is eligible for the UVA Health Plan

If an employee’s spouse does not work at UVA and has access to other health coverage that meets Affordable Care Act affordability and minimum value standards, the spouse is not eligible for UVA health coverage except in the following circumstances:

Spouses whose employer offers affordable health care that provides minimum value, but ALL of their health options are HMOs and the spouse lives outside the HMOs' defined service areas, are eligible to be a dependent on the UVA employee's health coverage.

You can increase your Supplemental Life insurance coverage without medical evidence of insurability only during Open Enrollment

Supplemental Life Insurance for MCRP and ORP participants who are already enrolled in Supplemental Life Insurance: You can increase your coverage by one increment without providing medical evidence of insurability (up to the Guarantee Issue Amount).
